Primary hyperparathyroidism simulating motor neuron disease: case report.
We report a case of a 26-year-old man who presented a lower motor neuron syndrome due to hyperparathyroidism. Electromyography showed neurogenic features with normal nerve conduction studies. Hypercalcemia led to the discovery of a primary hyperparathyroidism with gland hyperplasia. Following parathyroid surgery there was recovery of the neurological symptoms.

A B S T R A C T Serum immunoreactive parathyroid hormone (IPTH) was measured by radioimmunoassay in 54 patients with primary hyperparathyroidism and in 18 consecutive patients with ectopic hyperparathyroidism due to nonparathyroid cancer without apparent skeletal metastasis. Although serum calcium concentration was higher in the group with ectopic hyperparathyroidism, serum IPTH was lower (rank...
متن کاملCoexisting primary hyperparathyroidism and sarcoidosis in a patient with severe hypercalcemia.
A 75-year-old woman was admitted to our hospital because of general fatigue. She had suffered from sarcoidosis during her 40s with remission, but subsequently she experienced progression of hypercalcemia and renal dysfunction for 7 years. On admission, she showed marked hypercalcemia (up to 15.5 mg/dl) and renal failure (serum creatinine 2.5 mg/dl). Plasma intact PTH level was elevated (up to 1...
متن کاملCutaneous sarcoidosis simulating porokeratosis of Mibelli
We report a skin localization of systemic sarcoidosis, which presented with lesions that resemble porokeratosis of Mibelli. Skin biopsy showed non-caseating sarcoidal granuloma. Whereas cutaneous sarcoidosis is present in up to one-third of cases and may present with a wide variety of lesions, our presentation is uncommon. Partial remission was obtained with hydroxychloroquine and prednisone.
متن کاملPulmonary sarcoidosis simulating metastatic breast cancer.
The clinical appearance and imaging findings of sarcoidosis and breast carcinoma may sometimes mimic one another, making the differential diagnosis between these two diseases difficult in some cases. A 69-year-old woman displayed an irregular shaped lesion in her left breast. Preoperative localization modalities detected a breast mass with malignant characters. The patient also was found to hav...
